VPS Director Update – February 2020

Victoria People Solutions are a registered NDIS Provider of Mental Health and Disability Support Services across Melbourne. We have a large presence across Preston and Collingwood, and are looking to expand our footprint in to the Footscray and Ringwood areas within the coming months. We are excited to soon commence our Day Services and, in the not so far away future, our Supported Independent Living Service – stay tuned for more information on this one!

Welcome to our February 2020 Update. We start off by focusing on VPS’ successes. There is an unexpected story this month on how our participants are benefiting from our solutions focused approach to service delivery. Gerard enjoyed his first weekend holiday away with his VPS team, which was a huge success. Together with his team, Gerard enjoyed a city escape which included a shopping adventure, fine dining, arcade games, and a visit to the Sydney Road Street Party.  We also learn about the Ready Set Connect networking event which we attended this month, and review one the most innovative pieces of tech we’ve seen in a long time. Then we meet our two team leaders who are helping to take our programs to the next level, whilst also supporting and upskilling their current team members: the next generation of dedicated disability professionals!

This month marks our first trimester in our current location in Collingwood, and we are celebrating! Our plan is to meet with you- our program participants and their families- more often; deliver more services in-house; provide upskilling opportunities to our staff; and welcome one and all to our day services. The team is already leading the way in meeting people, with a number of appointments scheduled over the next 2 months. Planning is well underway to roll out centre-based services in early April and we will give you more details in the coming weeks of what you can expect from a VPS day service.

Over the last few months, we have come to recognise how valuable regular newsletters stories can be in mapping the way participants utilise their NDIA plans, and we are confident that  with more data becoming available, more and more will embrace the full potential of what a person-centred solutions focused approach can deliver. In 2020, one of our major goals is to make all VPS data collection accessible and discoverable on our web page. The team is busy developing the platform and, as we discussed in our previous newsletter, we have our very own VPS mobile app in the works.

At VPS, we truly believe that our greatest asset is our lovely team. As such, we are investing in our staff’s well-being by offering all full-time and part-time staff gym memberships with our corporate partner, Goodlife. Eligible VPS staff will be able to access any Goodlife gym staring March 2020, and we are even thinking of starting our own 8 weeks challenge. Watch this space for some amazing transformation stories!

We are very lucky and privileged to be operating from Collingwood. Right next door to us is the bubbly and lively suburb of Coburg, where Ability Fest 2020 will be held on the 4 of April at the Coburg Velodrome. As with any community event, you can expect VPS to be present, ready to rock the day! What an amazing event! We can’t wait! If you’re interested, we encourage you to check out the event’s website at https://www.abilityfest.com.au/

On an international front, the world is still coming to terms with the quick spread of the Corona-Virus. We have no doubt that our amazing and brilliant scientists are hard at work, trying to find a solution to this crisis. In the meantime, we urge each and everyone to look after each other. We would also to encourage everyone to support local businesses affected, for example, why not plan your next night out at some funky place in Melbourne’s China Town!

March will be a busy month which will also include some strategic planning for our long-term goals, as well as consolidating our current plans. We hope to be able to report on this very soon, but in the meantime, we hope that you enjoy reading this month’s newsletter!
